Membership FAQs
Answers to common questions about ASHEPA professional membership, assessment, payment, CPD and progression.
Does payment determine my membership grade?
No. Professional eligibility and grade are determined through the applicable evidence and assessment process. Payment activates an approved membership.
Can I join as a Professional Member without a traditional HSE qualification?
The RPL / Experienced Practitioner route may be available where you have at least seven years of substantial verified relevant HSE experience and can demonstrate the required professional competence through portfolio, references and professional review.
Do I receive a new membership number when I upgrade?
No. ASHEPA uses one permanent membership number throughout your professional membership history.
Can external training count toward CPD?
Yes. Relevant external learning can count when it meets the CPD rules and is supported by appropriate evidence and reflection.
What happens if I do not renew?
After the applicable renewal and grace period your membership may become Lapsed. Your professional history is preserved and you can use the appropriate reinstatement process.
Is Fellowship automatic after ten years?
No. Experience is part of the requirement, but Fellowship also requires advanced competence, senior or strategic contribution, professional evidence, references and panel assessment.
Can my employer see my confidential professional records?
Not automatically. Corporate payment or sponsorship does not provide access to confidential individual assessments, evidence or professional records.
What if I disagree with a professional decision?
Eligible decisions provide reasons and information about the applicable review or appeal process.
